The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) Research Laboratory within the METU Informatics Institute ranks universities in Turkey according to their academic performance, using Clarivate Analytics/InCites international sources and data published by YÖK. Hacettepe University, which has been in the first place for the last four years, took the second place in 2022-2023.

Six new indicators were added this year to the nine indicators used in the URAP Turkey rankings since 2009. Among these indicators added in order to measure the research activities of universities more precisely are the number of TÜBİTAK projects, the number of joint articles with domestic universities and the number of joint articles with foreign universities.

URAP includes the evaluation as "Turkish universities have been regressing not only in the URAP world rankings but also in the world rankings of other institutions in recent years. Our universities, which can reduce the number of articles in the journals with the lowest impact value below the world average and increase the number of articles in the journals with the highest impact value above the world average, will rise to the top in the world rankings” in its press release regarding the 2022-2023 Turkey Ranking.
