Turkey's First and Only "Bee House" Opened
23.05.2022 / Projects

The Bee House, which was established on a 380-decare lavender field in the Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş and where the natural environment of the bees and honey production stages can be observed, attracted attention with its colorful hives. Visitors and staff will be able to observe the productivity of the bees, their natural environment and the honey production stage by opening the covers of the hives in the house, where 25 hives, some of which are glass and the outer surface is painted, are placed.

Our University Bee and Bee Products Application and Research Center Manager Prof. Dr. Aslı Özkırım stated that the honey to be produced in the Bee House, which is the first in Turkey, will be analyzed in Hacettepe, and that they will check the health of bee colonies, and that those who will come here from different parts of the country will encounter honey produced from lavender flowers and endemic medicinal plants specific to the region.

The practices in the Bee House, which will set an example for beekeepers, will be conveyed to beekeepers in their up-to-date form, accompanied by scientific consultancy. It is anticipated that this project will contribute greatly to the development of beekeeping.
